The missions of the chapter shall be to promote the purposes and objectives of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) primarily at the local level; foster fraternal relations among retired, active and former officers of the seven uniformed services and the National Guard and Reserve Components; protect the rights and services for them and their dependents and survivors; and to serve the community and the nation.
Information on Joining the Chapter
Membership is open to all active, retired and former commissioned and warrant officers of our seven uniformed services to include the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve Components, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and US Public Health Service and their spouses. (Spouses who become chapter members have the same chapter rights as current members) Dues are $20.00 per calendar year. Those interested may contact our secretary or membership chair.

Our legislative chairman writes a monthly article in our newsletter on legislative information and suggestion of what action is required.
The Chapter meets once per month, August through May at the Youngstown Air Reserve Base in Vienna, Ohio. Luncheon meetings 4th Friday. September through March. April-August dinner meetings or activities. . This chapter is a strong supporter of the ROTC program at Youngstown State University and plans to provide scholarships for cadets. The chapter also awards a medal to a Cadet in the JROTC program in the area. Members participate in area Memorial and Veterans Day parades. It wants to be involved in supporting servicemen and women who are deployed from the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Base and Pennsylvania National Guard in Farrell, Pennsylvania.
Several of the chapter members are alumni of Youngstown State University ROTC program. MSVC covers Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania. MSVC is one of seven chapters in the Ohio State MOAA Council of Chapters. MSVC publishes a newsletter (print and electronic eleven times a year.
About Our Chapter
October 27, 2011—Twenty-six people agreed to chapter membership. Twenty people attended this organizational meeting. The decision was made to proceed with chapter establishment and subsequent submittal of a MOAA affiliation request from the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter (MSVC).
October 28, 2011—Col Calta formally requested affiliation of MSVC with MOAA. The MOAA Council and Chapter Affairs Board approved the affiliation this day.
December 8, 2011—Col Calta installed: Pres.–COL Walter Duzzny, USA, Ret. 1st VP .–LT John Holzer, USN 2nd VP–LTC Donald Rasile, USA, Ret. Sec./Treas–CWO3 Don Oglesby, USCG, Ret.
February 23, 2012—VADM Norbert Ryan, Jr., USN, Ret. President of MOAA, presents the Charter to Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter.
