Mission

The mission of AMOAA is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Information on Joining the Chapter

The chapter membership fee for MOAA Life members is waived for two years, Premium and Basic members get their first year free. So come out and support our local chapter, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow officers from every branch of service who reside in the greater Austin area. We are looking forward to your participation with us in support of the MOAA purpose and goals. Please contact Phil Denney for a membership application or additional information at pdenney53@live.com.You can also access the membership form and a name tag request form at our website.

Chapter Activities

AMOAA meets the third Wednesday of each month: September through June. The majority of our meetings are in the evening; however, we have three luncheons each year. The meetings include a pre-dinner social period, meal and guest speaker. We meet at the Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin, Texas. This facility is centrally located in the vicinity of Anderson Lane and MOPAC. We support 22 JROTC programs and 5 ROTC programs in Central Texas.

Legislative Issues

AMOAA supports the MOAA national legislative agenda. We also are active in supporting the Texas Council of Chapters. In February 2015 we, along with members of several other chapters, stormed the Texas Capitol. We visited many of our legislators and their staffs in promoting veterans' issues: Hazlewood Education Act, property tax relief for veterans disabled less than 100%, military absentee voting, and veterans' preference for employment by state agencies.

About Our Chapter

We are the local Austin chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (AMOAA). We make a difference in the Austin military community through liaison with local veterans’ organizations and we work with local State legislators on veterans issues. We strive to make a difference in the lives of young people with our JROTC and ROTC Scholarship Programs. And we provide positive support to officers who separate from service through the local Officer Placement Service program. AMOAA currently has 236 members made up of currently serving, former and retired officers and their survivors. Go to our website at http://www.amoaa.org for more information.
