The mission of the North SHore and Chicago Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.
Information on Joining the Chapter
Membership in the North Shore and Chicago Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. Please join us by contacting LTC (Ret) John DeReu at 847 680-8775 or email@example.com. During this current campaign, the annual dues for 2009 (normally $15)are waived.
The Chapter holds 11 meetings a years featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. A special Christmas party is held each December, and an annual day at the races in July. In addition the chapter supports 10 local JROTC programs and 2 ROTC programs and other veterans organizations. We also support indivdual members with personal services, as desired.
Our Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and we annually invite our Congressional Representative and Senators to speak to the chapter. The chapter is also active in supporting the Illinois Council of Chapters and the IL DVA in various state veterans' issues. We also issue e-mail legislative alerts for both hot federal and state actions.
The Chapter meetings are dinner meetings usually held on the third Sunday of each month beginning at 1230 hours. Locations vary and are announced in the chapter newsletter and at chapter meetings.
About Our Chapter
The North Shore & Chicago MOAA Chapter was chartered in 1963 and serves northeastern Illinois and the northern half of the city of Chicago. Meetings are held monthly in various locations. The chapter publishes a monthly newsletter, The Standard Bearer. The chapter currently has over 300 members and including spouses, totals over 500.
